Hur började det?

Our heritage

Every journey starts with a very first step. From collecting the post, to a long pilgrimage. One foot in front of the other. And you're on your way.

The year is 1958. A man called Helge Nyberg works at Volvo's spare parts warehouse in Ulricehamn. His big journey is about to begin. But right now he just longs to be home. In the cradle back home laying waiting for him is his newborn son Björn. And at work most things are... well, just hard work.

Helge's work is to pick the orders from Volvo's storage shelves. He fetches a ladder, picks what's on the order sheet, and then walks over to put the goods in a box. And walks back with the box.Helge Nyberg walked countless steps. The problem was that he didn't get anywhere.

But one day, Helge gets an idea about how work can be made easier. He sketches an idea of a trolley, combined with a ladder and holder for order sheets. Specially adapted for the work at Volvo. The workshop personnel thinks it's a great idea and builds it following Helge's drawings.

The picking trolley is born and with it the job at Volvo's becomes much easier. But new thoughts are running through Helge Nyberg's head. The journey now begins in earnest.

Revolutionary modular system

 – I made the design and came up with the ideas and Herbert was a devil at bending pipes. Helge Nyberg talks about how he and Herbert Andersson, the clever, technical talents, found each other.
Herbert was standing in his workshop,  bending pipe frames to chairs for the furniture industry, when Helge knocked on the door with a prototype for his trolley.

– Herbert showed what he could do and I had visions on design, ergonomics and function. We discussed, bent and welded until we both were satisfied.
– It actually turned out pretty good.

The first trolleys were made fully welded, but Helge soon realized that there was a need for trolleys of different sizes and designs. Then the idea was born of a modular system, where different parts could be mounted in the model that the customer wanted. Once again, Herbert Andersson found the solution.

– One evening when I met Herbert in the workshop, he made a tool into a clamp. He used the clamp on the pipe for a chair he had designed. Then it hit me. There's the key to my modular system! Helge was granted exclusive rights to the clamp, which is still one of the most important details of the company's production today.

New factory in Vist industrial area – Ulricehamn

In 1981, Helge Nyberg built a new factory in Ulricehamn. In the years that followed, the factory gradually expanded. Herbert Andersson's workshop was bought and all production has been under the same roof since 2000.

Helge's son Björn Nyberg takes over the company in 1986 and becomes the company's CEO. In 1989, Björn's son Robert was born and the next generation in the family business has begun to grow.

In 1992 the Ergobjörn brand is founded. Production of electric trucks begins and
the company is certified according to ISO 9001 and 14001. The company
grows and now have about 30 employees. Export operations take shape and
dealerships are signed in several countries.
